Our God is the great Creator. We see his handiwork in all he has made, from the wing of a bird to fruit on the vine. We see his power in the tiny mustard seed as well as the mighty whirlwind. Just as creation is stamped with God's character, so too his written word is full of images and metaphors that reveal the depth and wisdom of his truth.
Beloved teacher and writer Warren Wiersbe has compiled Scripture references for over four hundred similes, metaphors, and symbols and arranged them in alphabetical order so that pastors, teachers, and any serious student of the Bible can easily locate and compare them.
Using the New International Version, each occurrence of an image is further divided into the different contexts in which it is used. For example, the metaphor of an arrow is used to represent lies, God's judgment, God's discipline, evil words, defeat, lightning, deliverance, and sons.
The Index of Biblical Images will help you discover the richness of the Bible's language and imitate the effectiveness of its style.
