Requirements

Read through this section to find out the System and Memory requirements for the WS2GO application. The current version of WS2GO is Version 3.68. It supports Palm OS devices running OS version 5.x or 4.x This version can be downloaded from here.

WS2GO Version 3.68 does not support:

  • Sony Clie handhelds (limited support)
  • Handspring Visor devices
  • PalmOS 3.x or older

If you have a device using these older operating systems please write us at support@wordsearchbible.com with the exact type of device you are using, and we will be happy to send you a compatible version of WS2GO.

Memory Requirements

WS2GO requires at least 2 MB of available RAM to install and function correctly. This is in addition to the RAM required for database files. An average Bible without extensive notes takes about 1.5 MB of space in addition to the WS2GO application. For details on memory requirements, take a look at the Sample Memory Usage chart in this section.

How much free space do I have on my Palm device?

On a typical Palm device, this information can be found under either the Delete or Info menus from the main application section on the Palm. This menu will have a "Handheld" (or "Device") and a "Card" section. The Free Space for each memory section will be listed here.

You can organize bookmarks into categories, sort the order they appear in, add and delete bookmarks, and export search lists to a bookmark file. One bookmark file can hold up to 400 reference links. You can have as many bookmark files as you have space for on your device. The size of a bookmark file will vary depending on how many reference links it holds.

Note: Bookmark files are saved with the prefix bkm_. The default bookmark list is named bkm_WS2GO

There are two ways to access the bookmarks:
  1. Through the menu: Menu > Tools > Bookmarks

Choosing a Bible or Reference

To get started using the WS2GO on your Handheld device, you need to Download and Install a Bible or other text file from our website. Then, you can open the WS2GO application and load that same Bible or text file into the reader.

From the Website

We have a growing list of Bible translations, Bible Study Tools, devotionals, and other items available for download and purchase on our website. Go to www.ws2go.com and follow the links to the study resources. You will need to install a Bible or other database file and the WS2GO application itself. If you do not want to purchase a Bible translation, there are free versions available for download. Once you have downloaded a Bible file (or files), install it on your device. You can install multiple Bible translations and other items; you are only limited by the amount of available RAM on your device.

In the WS2GO

To open a Bible or other reference text on your device, you first need to open the WS2GO application from the Start Menu > Programs folder on your device. Then to go Menu > Library. Select the Bible or other reference file from the list and tap OK to load it into the reader.

If there are no files in the list, tap the Advanced button and specify the path to be exactly the path to the Bible folder in ActiveSync on your device. This path will usually be either \My Documents\Bible\ or \SD Card\My Documents\Bible\.

Daily Reading

The WS2GO download comes with a Daily Reading schedule that outlines a method for you to read through the Bible in one year. We have several other reading schedules that are also available on our updates page, if you would like to try a different one.

As you go through the schedule, there are links to the Bible text - tap on one, and this will open the WS2GO to that passage in the last Bible translation you had open. There are also check boxes so you can mark off which passages you have read, and keep track of where you are in your reading.

To open the Daily Reading Schedule, go to Menu > Navigation > Daily Reading.

Highlighting

The WS2GO offers eight different colors that you can use to highlight the Bible text you are reading, as well as the Bold and Underline features. There are two ways modify highlighting colors and highlight portions of text - the toolbar and the menu.

The highlight information is stored on a per Bible basis as a Bible-xxx-High file in main memory on your device. Deleting this file from memory will cause the highlights for that particular Bible to disappear all at once.

The Toolbar

The bottom toolbar includes several highlighting colors and highlight erase, acting as your customizable highlighter pallet. You can add/remove highlight colors and other options on the toolbar by going to Menu > Options > Toolbar Options.

To highlight or erase a highlight on a portion of text, simply select the text to be highlighted/erased and tap on the corresponding highlight color or highlight erase icon on the toolbar

The Menu

Set the highlighting color or feature:

Go to Menu > Options > Highlight Config. Select the color or feature you want to use (we recommend a good contrast to the text and background colors), and then tap OK.

Highlight a portion of the text:

First select the text with your stylus. Then go to Menu > Tools > Highlight Selection. This will highlight the text that you had selected with the color or feature you specified under the highlighting options.

Erase a highlight from the text:

Choose the text you wish to remove the highlighting from, then go to Menu > Tools > Highlight Selection and select Erase instead of a color. Tap the Highlight button again. Remember to reset your Highlight color or feature again before you try to highlight more text, as it will still be in the Erase setting.

Hyperlinks

Hyperlinks (underlined text) allow you to jump from the text you are in to a location in a different database or to a new location in the current database. Tapping on a hyperlink in a window will open another window with the text you linked to. If no text appears in the secondary reference window after you have tapped the hyperlink, tap the secondary window to make it active and then go to Menu > Library and load a Bible text in that window. Then retap the hyperlink in the first window. Bible text should appear.

Navigating (including Scrolling, Shortcuts, Verse Chooser)

There are several different ways to navigate the text in the WS2GO. The four main methods are described in this section:

Back/Forward buttons

The Back and Forward can be configured to navigate the active text using several different methods. The buttons are located on the bottom toolbar in the WS2GO.

This toolbar has icons that can be added to scroll back/forward through book, chapter, page and verse. To configure these options, go to Menu > Options > Toolbar Options, and Add in the navigation arrows you would like on the toolbar.

There are four main ways to scroll through the WS2GO text.

1. The scroll bar. The scroll bar has three buttons on the top and bottom of the slider marked "V," "L," and "S." When you tap one of these they will scroll the text one Verse, Line, or Screen, respectively. You can also drag the slider on the scroll bar to move through the entire body of text.

2. The five-way navigator or rocker/jog wheel. The preferences for this navigator can be set up under Menu > Options > Scrolling, Preferences -- change the Up/Dn and Left/Rt settings. Here you can set the navigator to scroll by Line/Verse/Chapter/Book/Screen/History.

3. Tapping. Under Menu > Options > Scrolling, Preferences you can enable "Tapping" and specify how you would like the text to scroll when you tap the top or bottom half of the screen

4. Auto Scrolling. The WS2GO allows you to auto scroll, at a customizable rate, through the text you are reading.

To enable auto scrolling, go to Menu > Display > Toggle Auto Scroll. The text will automatically start scrolling.

To decrease/increase the scroll rate, push up/down on the center five-way hardware navigation button on your device.

To stop the auto scrolling, tap anywhere on the screen

You can also set up a shortcut to turn auto scrolling on, under Menu > Options > Hot Key Shortcuts -or- Menu > Options > Shortcut Commands -or- Menu > Options > Toolbar Options.

Shortcuts

The WS2GO has both alpha shortcuts and hardware shortcuts that can be customized to the buttons or letters you would like to use.

Alpha Shortcuts - Keyboard

The alpha shortcuts are shortcuts that are assigned to letters on the keyboard. These can be customized under Menu > Options > Shortcut Commands, where you can add more letters that will shortcut to different features of the WS2GO and modify existing shortcuts.

Hardware Shortcuts

There are a number of shortcuts that can be assigned to the four hardware buttons on a Pocket PC. To view the full list, and assign a particular shortcut to a hardware button, go to Menu > Options > Hot Key Shortcuts.

Verse Chooser

The Verse Chooser is the primary method for navigating through versified material in the WS2GO. You can access the Verse Chooser in two main ways.

1. Through the menu: Menu > Verse Chooser

2. On the toolbar:

There are two modes of Verse Chooser available to choose from. See the screen shots below for the details of each mode. The default Verse Chooser is set to "Three Tap." You can go to Menu > Verse Chooser > Options to change the Verse Chooser mode.

The Three Tap Verse Chooser gives a separate screen for the book, chapter and verse. You can also select to color the book names by group. Tap on the book, and up comes the chapter screen (with the number of chapters for that book), then select the chapter and up comes the verse screen (with the number of verses for that chapter).

The toolbar reference has also been worked into this verse chooser. Tap the current book to go to a new book, tap the current chapter to change the chapter/verse of the current book, or tap the current verse to change the verse for the current book/chapter.

The Single Screen Verse Chooser lets you select the book, chapter, and verse of the new reference all on the same screen. To modify the chapter or verse, you must first select the chapter or verse number, then use the keyboard to input the new chapter or verse number.

You can also use the five-way navigation button to navigate the search screens, preference screens, dictionary input screen, and the main screen. This is for devices like the  Treos. If you want to use the 5-way navigation on the main screen, you will need to assign a shortcut to "Toggle 5-way Nav."

Personal Notes

WS2GO notes are a handy place to write ideas or commentary on a particular Bible verse or reference book passage. You can copy note text and paste it in NotePad or other text-editing software. You can also copy notes from NotePad to WS2GO notes. A note can be a maximum of 8,000 characters.

Note: Notes are saved in the following naming scheme: note_(name). Every note will contain the prefix note_.

There are two ways to access the Notes screen:

1. Through the menu: Menu > Tools > Notes

2. By tapping on the Notes icon:

Note:  If the asterisk does not appear in front of the verse after creating a Personal Note, go to Menu > Options > Verse Format and be sure that "Display Personal Notes Icon" is enabled.

Instructions below use the note icon as the access method, but the menu method or the Graffiti shortcut will work as well.

To create a note:

1. Find a passage you wish to annotate.

2. Tap the Note icon with your stylus.

3. Write the text of your note. You can copy and paste text with the buttons at the bottom of the screen.

4. Tap Save when you are finished. Notes are named according to the Bible passage where they were entered.

To Edit a particular note:

1. Tap the Note icon with your stylus.

2. Tap the down arrow to open the Verse drop down. WS2GO will display all the notes for the currently open file.

3. Select a Bible reference by tapping it. WS2GO will jump to that note. From there you can edit the note.

To View a particular note:

1. Go to Menu > Options > Verse Format and select "Display Personal Notes Icon."

2. Navigate to a passage that you have made a note on.

3. Tap the * icon on the verse.

4. The note will open in a second reference window.

Searching/Concordance

The search command in the WS2GO acts like an exhaustive concordance. You can search the entire Bible, or a portion of the Bible, for a specific word, phrase, or partial word. To open the search screen, go to Menu > Search or tap the Search icon on the toolbar: . Insert the word or phrase you want to search for, and tap Search List to begin the search.

Wild Card Search

To use the wild card searching, enter the word suffix form you want to search for. Then, enter the "wild character," a * (star) or a - (dash). Due to font issues, the * (star) does not appear with Greek and Hebrew fonts, so a - (dash) is best to use at the end of the word(s).

Here are a few examples:

• Single words: just* will find just, justify, justification, etc

• Multiple words:  tru* lov* with option All Words will find verses with true and love in them

Search Range

To specify the range of books that you want to search in, use the drop down list to select the desired book range or to create your own custom range. After setting the range, tap Search List to begin the search.

Search Options

There are five different Search Options that you can use to help narrow down a search.

1. Exact: When selected, searches will match the word/phrase exactly as it is entered.

2. Ignoring Case: When selected, searches will ignore the presence or absence of capital and lower-case letters.

3. Ignore Punct: When selected, searches will ignore the presence or absence of punctuation such as periods or commas.

4. All Words Any Order: When selected, will return verses where all words listed are found within the same verse.

5. Any Words: When selected, will return verses including any of the words listed.

Split Screen

With Split Screens, you can display up to six windows at the same time. Each window can be configured and moved independently. Or, you can link windows together to synchronize the scrolling.

For example, you could display two different translations of the Bible on the same screen for comparison. Or have one window with the text and two windows of reference or commentary.

Note: If you are using a Bible with Notes or References (such as the New American Standard Version with Strong's Numbers, or the NIV with Publisher Notes), the default setting is that the screen below the Bible version will be used for references.

To activate Split Screen Mode:

1. Install multiple translations of the Bible and study aids on your Pocket PC device. For more information, see our online store or installation instructions.

2. Go to Menu > Options > Split Window Cfg and choose your max number of windows.

3. Tap the split screen icon in the bottom toolbar:  , or go to Menu > Display > Toggle Windows. Each time you tap the icon the screen will split again up to six windows. Tapping a window makes it the active window.

To load texts into a window:

1. Tap the window to make it active.

2. Go to Menu > Library, select the text you want, and tap OK.

3. The text will display in the active window.

To switch window modes:

1. Tap Menu > Options > Split Window Cfg.

2. Select the Max Number of Windows you want to display at a time.

3. Tap OK to return to the text.

To specify which window a link will open in:

1. Go to Menu > Options > Split Window Cfg. Select the Advanced button.

2. Specify which window you want links from Window 1, 2, 3, etc to open in.

For example, you may have three open windows. The top two have Bibles and you want the third window to display the reference for Window 1 and Window 2. On this Split Screen Adv screen, you would set Window 1 to open in Window 3, and Window 2 to open in Window 3.

Toolbar

The bottom toolbar on the main screen is fully customizable. You can turn it on/off, change it's position on the screen, decide which icons you want on the toolbar, and arrange them in any order on the toolbar. To configure the toolbar, go to Menu > Options > Toolbar Options.

The toolbar settings you can change on this screen are as follows...

• The list of items in the grey box are the icons that are enabled on the toolbar - in the order that they are displayed.

• To add new icons to the toolbar, select the icon you want from the top drop-down box, then tap Add.

• To remove an icon from the toolbar, select the icon from the list and tap the Delete button.

• To rearrange the order of the icons on the toolbar, select from the list box the icon you want to move, and then tap Up or Down to move it to your desired location.

• Select the toolbar's position in the bottom drop-down box. Choose from top, bottom, left, or right. This is also where you can select to disable the toolbar so it will not display.

• The collapse button is the small blue bar with the down arrow that sits above the toolbar, and lets you minimize/maximize it. With the checkbox at the bottom of this screen you can choose to enable or disable this bar.
